Just got a question some of my friends are asking and I am just needing to find out why they should be on their sides and what does it do to the quality of the Wine. Thanks Nature girl

Its ok. I do not think my friend said it right either: I just thought the bottles laid down on a wine rack. They should have said it that way. Then I screwed up also.... So If I got it right this time. Why should they lay down in a wine rack and does this help keep the wine from going bad.

Ah, I see Sorry for not comprehending it before

I have heard that this has to do with the fact that the wine stays in contact with the cork, because wines that stand up straight can develop deposits of sediment at the bottom.

The wine stays in contact with the cork. This keeps the cork moist and it expands to fill up the space. If it dries out, it shrinks and this allows in air which will spoil the wine. alcohol + oxygen = acetic acid (vinegar) + water.
