Vinegar in a carboy?

Can I use a carboy to make vinegar or is the neck to narrow to allow it to breath properly? I've been using 1 gallon sun tea jars, but am about to make mayhaw wine so I can make mayhaw vinegar.

I think if you used a glass carboy you would be fine. However, since I never made vinegar myself yet, I would wait until an experienced member here will react and give you more reliable advice

You can use it, just don't fit it with an airlock, vinegar culture needs oxygen. Maybe just some cotton that has been sulfited and dried just to keep the dust out. I would not top it all the way up however, leave some headroom so the top has max exposure to the air. Also do NOT use a carboy that you plan on using for wine again, it can probably be cleaned/sanitized but it is not worth taking a chance with your wine.

Hey There, I'm about to try to make some mayhaw vinegar in a Sun Tea jar as well. How is yours going and what recipe are you using? Also, where did you find your recipe mayhaw wine?

What's a "Sun Tea" jar?

Mai Tai it's a big jar made of clear glass, usually with a valve on the bottom. You put the tea bags in the water and let it sit out in the sun all day, that brews the tea.

I haven't started my mayhaw wine yet, but I go the recipe from I think the Louisiana Mayhaw Association. I searched on google, and I think the first two hits had recipes.

Also Mai Tai, you can get sun tea jars at Walmart or stores like that.

Well, I'm located in Israel so that would be a bit too far away for me to go shopping, but I am certainly going to find out where I can buy them here and just have to try this out Thanks rcw4320!
