Where do they all come from?

How much alcohol depends on what the concentration of sugar is in the water, how much nutrients are in the water, what kind of yeast you are using, and what the temp is. Everything being perfect and using turboyeast you may achieve about 17-18 percent alcohol. NO WAY will you get to 50% that is 100 proof by the way. To get that high you need to distill.

Dear DamageInc, sugar wine is the first step to understanding the ethanol production process. It is the purest form of alcohol production there is. When the underlying principles are understood, then more intricate alcohols can be produced. You need to know the types of nutrients that are favorable to healthy yeast cell formation, the two metabolic processes through which yeast cells produce energy, the better types of sugar to feed these cells, the amount of ambient ethanol they can sustain, the temperature range at which they operate... Sugar wine is perfect for that.

DamageInc, if you think that throwing a can of frozen juce in there makes it more of a noble drink, I think you should review your criteria. By the way, mead is nothing other than honey (sugar, right?), water and yeast... Sugar wine can be quite palatable, you just need to know how to make it.

Honey is not the same as table sugar or dextrose.
