Good red wine recommendations ...

Dear alt.food.wine, having recently read an article on consuming red wine and having good health, can you folks recommend a good, fairly priced red wine. We went to the LCBO (liquor store here in Ontario,
Canada) and saw a 3L bottle of Carlo Rossi red for $22.95 Cdn. Is this a good wine? I read it is made in stainless steel drums, is this good?
Some wiseguy mentioned that all Carlo Rossi's are not made with grapes, this sounds fishy to me.

If you're looking for domestic red wine, I like Gallo of Sonoma's merlot ($5 at Safeway) or the Glen Ellen Merlot ($5 at Safeway). Enjoy!

I suspect you'll receive a ton of replies to this but I'll throw my 2 cents in.
There are a lot of superb wines out there for $10-$15 but they can be hard to find. I am not sure about Canada, but here in the states $12 will buy you a bottle of crap in the grocery store, but it could also buy you a great
French or Spanish wine at a decent wine shop.
I am really on a Spanish kick for value wines these days look for some of the following:
-Capcanes 2001 91pts by R. Paker $11 USD
-Castle Del Remi 2000 Gothm Brute (hard to find) 92pts by R. Paker for $10

- Santa Duc cotes du rhone 1998 or 1999 $11 USD
- Les Grand Bois cotes du rhone 1998 $14 USD
