One of my relatives is a great fan of Single Malts, and me not knowing much on the subject, I recently asked him what would be a good one.
His reply was "Glenlivet or Abelour if you like them mild."
This was of course a trick question, I would like to surprise him with a bottle of goodies. Now that I think we know his preferences, what would be a good Japanese brand to buy for him, one that is not too hard to get hold of?

The local supermarket here (Bangkok) has only two types, Yamazaki and Hakushu, both from Suntory, and both 10 years old. A bit strange actually, since the youngest ones i can find info about on their website are both 12.

I see now there is some technical things I got wrong, Single Malt is probably not the same as Pure Malt? I guess both would be acceptable.
