Have you tried the 18 yo HP yet? It was voted the best spirit on the planet in late 2006!

Yes, it IS good, but as to best on the planet? Taste is a very subjective thing.
It is medium-sweet and rich with aroma notes of chocolate and cocoa and dried fruits - apricots and raisins; when water is added, the wood characters of beewax and honey are more obvious. The flavour is quite big-bodied and medium-dry with gently chewy oaky vanilla, chcocolate, beewax and honey and is just a wee bit tangy. If finishes long, big-bodied and elegant; it is drier than the younger expressions of HP and has soft peat on the tail.

If you have the pennies, try the HP 40yo:
wonderfully, decadently mature, with intense life vibrant within the glass. The colour is a deep amber with bronze highlights and the aroma is quite full-bodied and mature with notes of oranges, vanilla, honey and eucalyptus; with water, it becomes softer, buttery and creamy with notes of hazelnut, brioche and popcorn. The flavour is medium-dry, round and rich, with a touch of spice tingling across the tongue; there are hints of orange, walnuts and pistachios, buttered wholemeal bread and the texture is smooth and creamy. It finishes long and has an ethereal centre with rich edges, a little tangy note and some salt appears at the very tail.
And it costs a mere $1800.00 a bottle, which, for a whisky of this age, is a relative bargain!

I have had the HP 18 - it's very smooth and somewhat smokey...my friends (who knocked of most of the bottle) loved it...
